I have white spots on my teeth after 4 yrs of braces- is this permanent?

when i try to use whitening products like Crest or Bright Light the white spots dont even out - they just get even whiter. My teeth are not really yellow to begin with but the spots on them are really bright white.

after having braces on for 4 years and all the money my parents spent i thought they would like nicer but they just look worse. can i get rid of these spots and what are they called?

Those white-spots are called decalcification spots. These spots can appear on teeth that have had braces or teeth that have not. You may want to ask your dentist for some fluoride toothpaste if he did not already have you on that while your braces were on. This will help re-mineralize the decalcifiaction areas of the tooth, making it look the same as the rest of the tooth. Some areas of decalcification are are fairly shallow and your dentist may be able to do a composite filling or a colored white filling that will match the rest of your tooth. I would talk to him and see what his recommendation would be, he can better judge your case.
Reply:omg the same exact thing happened to me. I got my braces off june 2006 and i still have the spots, but they are starting to go away because i just recently started using Crest White Strips, they are dissapearing very quickly. You can get them at any drugstore, Walmart, or Target. hope I helped!
Reply:Ooh, thats a toughie, and also one of the reasons why my orthodontist told me not to eat curries or foods with dyes that stained-

Def. Ask your dentist about whitening at your next visit- they can better help you with spots or discoloration in specific areas. good luck!
Reply:I had white spots after 2 years of braces and they eventually went away.

I would try baking soda and see if that helps.
Reply:I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it%26#039;s called staining, and it%26#039;s an oft-irreversable side effect of having braces. Sometimes they go away by themselves, sometimes you can chemical them off, but usually you can%26#039;t get rid of them.
Reply:these spots are not permanent. If they continue to get whiter you just have bad teeth.Don%26#039;t take this as a offensive answer.
Reply:I have the same thing after braces. Whitening strips didn%26#039;t work on this one tooth. And I%26#039;ve been using white strips for over 4 years. But I do notice that it does get lighter with time and not really noticeable. It seems to be a common thing with braces. I heard that it doesn%26#039;t really go away though. It can only lighten. See a cosmetic dentist. They prob have laser treatments for it.good luck!
Reply:ask ur dentist for ur money back. Just kiddin. Wait it out. It seems hard but use colgate whitestrips and be patient. they will go away.
