When the child loses a tooth or they teeth do the....?

permanent ones come in the same spot the one fell out or do the permanent teeth come in behind the area where the baby teeth are? Please share your experiences. Thanks

When the child loses a tooth or they teeth do the....?
My daughter just lost her first one and the new one was already coming in behing the baby tooth. It was a week and a half ago and her new one is slowly moving into place.

My sisters did that, she had to have her baby teeth pulled out because she had two rows of teeth for a while. Her teeth are perfectly straight without braces. I am 32 yrs old and have braces now because my teeth aren%26#039;t straight. My teeth came in right where the baby ones fell out.

It just depends on how much room there is when they are all in if they will be crooked or not.

Hope that helps.
Reply:the new tooth should grow into where the baby tooth was.
Reply:they are suppose to come out the same spot

but some don%26#039;t

that%26#039;s why some people need braces when they are older
Reply:yes same as above...
Reply:My son has had some permanent teeth to grow in exactly the same spot. However, he has had a few to grow in behind his baby teeth. Some even before they fall out. His did straighten up on their own.
Reply:Sometimes they do, sometimes they don%26#039;t... and when they don%26#039;t, the kid will need braces. Luckily for me, my teeth are straight, so I won%26#039;t need braces.

I just turned 14, and I still have a baby tooth waiting to fall out... weird
Reply:They should come in at the same spot. If not maybe you should see a dentist.
Reply:Sometimes they come in where the other fell out but as others have said, sometimes they don%26#039;t. My daughters baby teeth didn%26#039;t come out on their own so the permanent ones would come up behind the baby teeth. We had to have the dentist pull their teeth ahead of time so the permanent teeth would move into the spot or come up to the spot where the baby tooth was. The ones that were behind moved into the correct place after making room for them.

My 6 year old daughter's bottom teeth are coming in crooked.?

Her permanent teeth have been growing behind her baby teeth. But even after the baby tooth comes out, there still doesn%26#039;t seem to be enough room for the permanent teeth. Is there a chance they will straighten out? Or does this mean her jaw is too small?

My 6 year old daughter%26#039;s bottom teeth are coming in crooked.?
Hmmmm, my mom%26#039;s a dentist, and this is what she said:

Most teeth will come in crooked if the baby teeth don%26#039;t come out first when the permenant teeth are coming in. You shouldn%26#039;t worry unless she is 9 or 10 and nothing has been changing, in which most cases the kid will need braces. But, don%26#039;t worry. They should straighten out!!!
Reply:They could straighten out, but she is too young to worry about that right this time... you need to have her checked at the dentist office, if the dentist thinks there is concern... you will be asked to take her to the orthodontist.... they like to check them by age 7 anyway... doesnt mean jaw is too small.. just could mean crowding of the teeth....
Reply:I would get her to an orthodontist...6 is a little bit young but there are so many things to be done to help before the permanent teeth come in. Most of the consult%26#039;s are free for the 1st visit so I would not hurt anything to call and make an appt.
Reply:Your jaw grows the most from 6 years to 12 years, so her jaw may be too small now, but she is just at the beginning of the biggest growth period for her jaw. Just keep taking her to the dentist regularly so that they can keep an eye on it, but I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it now.
Reply:The very last teeth behind her baby teeth are her 6 yr molars, her permanent teeth. As for others I would think it is too early to tell, she should be seeing a dentist for regular check ups. They will be able to tell you, and usually early orthodontic treatment begins about 8 yr olds there are more adult teeth in at that time.

Teeth extractions???

If I have already had 1 tooth pulled, and might need another 1 pulled because I have an extra permanent tooth growing in, does that effect my chances or getting my wisdom teeth pulled? See, I have a 50/50 chance. My Dad didn%26#039;t have to get is pulled, but my Mom did. And I have a sister, so we are both trying to figure out who will get their%26#039;s pulled.

Teeth extractions???
hi if you do have supernumerary teeth(extra) there are chances that you may not have enough space for the wisdoms to erupt, and they could get impacted.Should that happen you ,u probably will have to take them out

Fused teeth in 2yr old?

My little girl is 2 and we went to the dentist to be told that her lower right incisor is fused with the adjacent tooth. I went to the dentist because I felt there was no space for the bottom right. Instead it would appear that the two teeth had fused.

Has anyone been through this and what are the chances that her permanent teeth might be ok, i.e. she will have not have a single big fused tooth instead of 2 separate ones.

Does anyone have any information/experience of this? I would love to here from you.

Fused teeth in 2yr old?
Yes, my son%26#039;s top front and the one next to it of his adult teeth were fused together into one huge front tooth, which looked terrible. To cut a long story short, he had it taken out, and luckily had an extra tooth growing on the other side of the joined one, which a very clever orthodontist has used a brace to move along so that the spare tooth is now his other front tooth in the gap where the fused one was. It has taken three years of braces and is nowhere near finished yet. But looks fine now.

The orthodontist and all the other people he consulted had never come across anything like it before - he was quite famous among them! He still has to have an operation to stop the muscle trying to move the replacement tooth back to where it came from.

The good news is, his baby teeth didn%26#039;t have this problem, so I would assume that your daughter%26#039;s teeth will be separate when the adult ones grow.

Good luck! :-)
Reply:woah i never heard of that happening before!
Reply:Sometimes this can be genetic and can happen in the permanent teeth also. Sometimes it is a freak thing that will not happen again. And, sometimes it is due to an illness (fever) or drug taken while you were pregnant that may have caused disruption in the tooth cells and caused this and would not show up in the permanent teeth. No telling, unless this runs in your family.
Reply:This is a fairly common genetic problem it happens with incisors . I%26#039;ve been a dental nurse for 20 years and have seen about 10 cases. None of them went on to have problems with their adult teeth. Even if her adult teeth are fused as it%26#039;s lower teeth it won%26#039;t be noticable - so don%26#039;t worry! Just keep her teeth clean and I%26#039;m sure she will go on to have a healthy beautiful smile!
Reply:My daughter is 7 and her 2 front teeth on the top were fused together. It looked like a huge permanent tooth in the middle of her mouth. we finally had to pull it just about 3 months ago, because it had two root stems and one side was loose and the other not so much. They told us it was very unlikely that her permanent teeth would not be fused. Well, we went to the dentist and they took x-ray of her mouth and her new ones will be fused also. Except instead of one tooth and 2 roots its 2 teeth with one root (looks like un upside down heart). Needless to say, you wont know about her permanent teeth until she%26#039;s old enough to loose the baby ones. I sympathize with you though. At first I was shocked and scared people would make fun of her, but in all her years only 2 people have actually said something negative to her about it. That doesn%26#039;t stop her from telling everyone she knows about it. it%26#039;s unique and she should be proud of it. And when it comes time that her permanent teeth are fused, do what I do... see every dentist, orthodontist, periodontist etc. and decide what is best for her. Good luck.

Can teeth stains from a vitamin deficiency be removed?

My teeth have been an off-whiteish color for as long as I can remember. I brush regularly everyday. I use/have tried several whitening toothpastes but that has not helped. I was told that this discoloration is from a vitamin deficiency when I was little and my permanent teeth were forming under my baby ones, though I don%26#039;t know specifically which vitamin(s) would cause this. Would any whitening products work on my teeth? What about professional whitening methods? I really want healthy white teeth! Please help!

Can teeth stains from a vitamin deficiency be removed?
My guess is that it is due to chemical composition throughout rather than something attached to the surface. Still, there may be hope. I learned in chemistry class that some dentists have a paste that can %26quot;remineralize%26quot; teeth, and they use this in some children. You should look into that. There is one product I know of that is available by mailorder called recaldent MI or something like that. Here is the link:

http://www.gcamerica.com/mipaste.html

Be somewhat cautious when playing chemistry with your body. The ratio of minerals that the teeth are composed of is very specific. The human body is designed to maintain homeostasis and all sorts of balance, including chemical. So even supplement pills go through the body%26#039;s process and are allocated how the body %26quot;sees%26quot; fit. In the case of a cream/paste, you are applying it directly to the teeth, and it%26#039;s going to bond where it may. Too much of one mineral can make the tooth brittle or soft. So do some reading first and follow the instructions carefully- also err to the conservative side if there is any doubt.

Just be careful of dentists that do unneccessary removal of teeth so they can get practice putting in caps/veneers/false teeth. My wife%26#039;s dentist used his authority to convince my friend to remove three teeth which had no decay or no major problems (%26quot;we%26#039;re going to remove three %26#039;bad%26#039; teeth%26quot;). Now she has three fake teeth and a triple abscess in her roots due to this shoddy dentistry.

Good luck.
Reply:Talk to your dentist.

Sometimes bleaching with superoxol will help. It is often combined with veneers. Veneers cover the fronts of the teeth, but if the core of the tooth is dark, it is hard to cover. Using something like superoxol will help lighten it, so that the veneer is more likely to be success (and as %26quot;white%26quot; as you want it).
Reply:Tooth discoloration can be caused by a variety of things, including a vitamin deficiency. Before visiting a dentist for a consultation, which can be expensive, try Crest Whitestrips. They only cost $20.00-$25.00. I use them and they really do whiten. Last resort, get a consultation from your dentist or local dentist clinics are free! Good luck!
Reply:my daughter has bad kidneys, her dentist said her teeth are going to rot because of this.

now it looks like she has not brushed her teeth for about a year. there looks like grit on her teeth, they are yellow and her gums bleed excessively.

her doctor said something about vitamin dificiency but most cause of the kidneys.

I know this if off of the question but I might help
Reply:what have you done about the vitamin problem try there first and then think about whitening them.

My daughter's teeth is extremly yellow, bucked, and has a large hole behind..how?

my daughter is 14 yrs old..sometimes when she eats, one of her upper behind teeth will crack (something like into small pieces). Now, a large hole can be seen. It seems like the tooth is lost but there%26#039;s still a bit at the side of the tooth. From the hole i can see her permanent tooth...What should i do? she will never visit a dentist for check-ups. She has two extremely bucked, yellow front teeth. The stain would not come out no matter how hard she brushed it. What should i do?

My daughter%26#039;s teeth is extremly yellow, bucked, and has a large hole behind..how?
Why on earth haven%26#039;t you taken this child to a dentist? She needs immediate dental treatment. You have been a neglectful parent.
Reply:Needs to have the decay removed completely and a crown put on. The yellow needs to be bleached with something like whitestrips. 14 is too young to throw your smile away forever, get her to a dentist.
Reply:to save her teeth, she will have to go to a dentist. if she has fear of a dentist, call around and there are many dentists who are very understanding with fearful patients and will work with them in many ways. however, this is a question of your daughter%26#039;s dental health that will affect her throughout her life, seeing the dentist should not be an %26#039;option%26#039; for her...this is a choice you%26#039;ll have to make for her whether she likes it or not...trust me she%26#039;ll thank you when she%26#039;s 25 and still has all her pearly whites...ps...the dentist can make whitening and orthodontic recommendations as well..it%26#039;s up to you...she may be mad for a while but it%26#039;s worth it for her smile...
Reply:You must get your child to a dentist,,,,Good Luck
Reply:be the MOTHER and take your child to the dentist. Quit being so concerned of not being liked and step up!
Reply:i had the same problem, my teeth were yellow and my gums were dark and would bleed everytime i brush. i just brushed for like almost a year and went for check ups. no matter how much she protests just take her to the dentist..if that doesnt work then strap her to a chair and have a dentest come to your house..if all fails then grind her teeth with sand paper and brush with a wire brush.
Reply:get your child to the dentist, why have you waited so long?
Reply:You do what any good parent would do and make her go to the dentist...she%26#039;s a CHILD, and you are the parent. She shouldn%26#039;t be allowed to make the final decision on whether or not she can go to checkups. Since you%26#039;ve allowed her to make that decision, look what%26#039;s happened to her teeth! It sounds like she needs teeth pulled, some braces to fix the bucked teeth and some tooth whitener...try Crest Whitestrips.
Reply:Wow you really should make her go see a dentist. The hole that you see in that tooth could result in damage to the permanent tooth underneath it. It probably became decayed and broke when she bit into something. Decay spreads. If there are pieces of that tooth still in her gums it will cause problems later. After she has all of problems taken care of, she can be fitted with a bleaching tray. You just put a small amount of gel into the tray and wear it for the recemmended amount of time. That will reslove the yellow. Also, remember that you can brush to hard and too often. This will cause the enamel on your teeth to wear away. She will need braces to correct her front teeth. It is a long process but she will in turn feel better about herself.

When you got your wisdom teeth pulled.. how long did it take after to get swollen or start hurting?

i got my two wisom teeth pulled two teeth in the front, two at the bottom, and one permanent tooth that was under another permanent one. so 7 in total. Its been a day later and i still have not taked vicotin or had swolling (just a little bit from the bottom front teeth) Can I expect the worse to come soon? or is that it?

When you got your wisdom teeth pulled.. how long did it take after to get swollen or start hurting?
It seems as you are pretty lucky. Some people experiance little or now swelling and then there are others, that have baseball cheeks...

I had no swelling but some bruising, and on the second day I experianced pain more then anything but not utter pain. Also, I think it really depends on your age I had mine pulled at 27 but I assume if I was younger I probably wouldn%26#039;t have sufferred from anything.

Lucky to you!
Reply:that%26#039;s probably it, everyone is different, you are probably one of the lucky ones, when i got all four wisdom teeth out i had swelling and pain as soon as the anesthesia wore off

At what age does does your teeth stop growing?

I know that u get a baby tooth then you get a permanent when your permanent teeth is gone theres no more. But i have 3 baby molar and its not thats healthy than my permanent, im thinking of thinking them out. Im 16, if i take em out will my permanent molar grow?

At what age does does your teeth stop growing?
I think 8
Reply:You are somewhat delayed, but it%26#039;s not usually a problem. The fact that you still have 3 baby molars tells me that you are at least %26quot;uniformly%26quot; delayed. If there are indeed permanent teeth present under these baby teeth and you just can%26#039;t stand the thought of still having baby teeth, go ahead and get them out. There%26#039;s probably no real need to do it, unless the x-ray shows that maybe the roots are not dissolving the way they should.

My baby's teeth are not straight/ aligned. Have you experienced this with your baby?

My 7 month old has 3 teeth and they are not in a straight line in her gum. They are misaligned. Has anyone experienced this with their baby? Did it affect their permanent teeth or did their permanent teeth come out okay?

My baby%26#039;s teeth are not straight/ aligned. Have you experienced this with your baby?
My sons were crooked and one of his adult teeth came in BEFORE the baby tooth fell out. I was having nightmares about the dental bills that were to come. The dentist told me to wait his teeth were still growing and moving. Sure enough his teeth are straight now. Have faith and keep your hope up.
Reply:keep an eye on them as they fall out. then watch the permanent ones. chances are that it won%26#039;t affect her adult teeth. don%26#039;t worry!
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry about it now. When the baby is a little older, take her (or him) to a dentist for a regular check up. Crooked baby teeth don%26#039;t necessarily mean crooked adult teeth!
Reply:They may need braces when they get older. Next time you go to the dentist ask him to look at your baby%26#039;s teeth.
Reply:this is good so when your baby gets his/her adult teeth they will have space to grown in stright
Reply:Do not worry about the baby teeth. She is only 7 months old they will probably straighten out as she gets more.
Reply:They won%26#039;t be. Right now those are the only teeth, and there%26#039;s nothing to stop them from shifting.

These are just the baby teeth. Once more teeth come in, the gaps will close and the teeth will straighten.

It doesn%26#039;t tell you much about the permanent teeth because those come in at a different pace.
Reply:Remember your baby%26#039;s skeletal structure is still growing. As a child%26#039;s jawbones grow, more room becomes available for the growing teeth.

Just keep an eye on it. By the time your child reaches around 6 years of age (right before the first baby tooth falls out and are replaced with bigger permanent ones), there shouldn%26#039;t be crowding on the baby teeth by then.

Hope this helps, and good luck.
Reply:This is why dentists don%26#039;t put braces on baby teeth. Relax and wait until his adult teeth come in, then find a dentist if you%26#039;re not happy.
Reply:You have nothing to worry about the baby teeth will allign as the baby gets more teeth. It shouldn%26#039;t affect their adult teeth at all. in fact the adult teeth will be pushing the baby teeth from side to side as they come in. if your baby is sucking a thumb or fingers it would be prudent to try to stop this habit soon because it can cause the teeth to come in crooked. Give her an orthodontic pacifier for her to suck on instead. thumb sucking is harder to quit and when they reach the age where they begin losing baby teeth and getting permanent teeth, then it can cause the teeth to come in crooked. at 7 months it really is too soon to worry about crooked teeth. they won%26#039;t be getting permanent teeth in until they are about 5 or 6 years old
Reply:my son%26#039;s baby teeth were straight, however they are now falling off for the news ones to come up. and the new ones are quite crooked.

so, since your baby%26#039;s teeth will fall out when she is about 6 yrs old, you need not fuss about her baby teeth. however, do keep an eye on them when she starts changing them.

Question about losing teeth+cavities?

I lost one of my bottom teeth, close to a molar a few years back. When I lost it, I saw that there was a cavity on the molar behind it right where the tooth had been, due to not flossing. I didn%26#039;t tell my parents, and the dentist never filled anything. I let the new tooth grow in, no problem. I%26#039;m sure that it was a cavity and not a stain too. Now, I am having severe pain and sensitivity between those teeth, and I have braces on. It hurts so bad that I can%26#039;t chew on that side. What should I do? My parents said that their dental insurance only covers dental visits 2 times a year. Will they damage my braces if I get them filled? I have gotten many cavities (like 8) as a child on baby teeth. I only have 1 on a permanent tooth, and I want to stay healthy.

If a root canal is needed, I really don%26#039;t want to do it because I know that It will hurt a TON!!!

Question about losing teeth+cavities?
You are probably not experiencing any severe tooth problem. The area you noticed as what looked like %26quot;decay%26quot; was probably nothing more than stain, which can be deceiving. Decay would never have gone undetected by your dentist during and after the extraction, or the orthodontist, who %26quot;examined%26quot; you and viewed all of your %26quot;x rays%26quot; before your ortho placement. Decay is always taken care of prior to having your ortho placed. What you are experiencing sounds like and probably is due to movement of the teeth. Try taking some Motrin or Advil for the pain, avoid chewing on that side and see if it settles down. If not see your dentist next week to have it checked.

Additional information: A root canal can easily be completed without disturbing the bands; we open the occlusal surface exposing the pulp chamber allowing for access to remove the nerve for this procedure. Root canal procedures are virtually painless unless there is an abscess involved. Restorations (filling) can also be placed, usually without the removal of a band, although a band %26quot;can be easily removed%26quot; (without any damage to it) for this procedure (or any other) in the event that decay does happen to develop while in orthodontic treatment. The bands are cemented on the molars which should arrest and deter any decay except what may develop at the gingival margins and the occlusal surfaces that are exposed with poor hygiene habits. Just because you “think it will be painful and impossible” while in orthodontic treatment, doesn%26#039;t necessarily mean that it will be. We have a great deal of experience, not to mention years of school just for dentistry. We are thoroughly competent in taking care of your “complete dental health” along with “any possible dental problem” that may occur at any time as well as during your orthodontic treatment. Have a little faith in your dentist and orthodontist; they will do their part in taking excellent care of your teeth. The day to day care which includes flossing and brushing is all up to you, so make sure to do a good job with your hygiene so decay won’t have a chance to develop! If your pain persist or becomes worse, see your dentist early next week for an emergency appointment.

The two annual appointments covered by the dental insurance your parents were refering to, are for the semi annual hygiene or cleaning appointments with once a year x rays.
Reply:My best advice is to see a dentist ASAP.

The root canel shouldn%26#039;t hurt a ton but it is something that you wouldn%26#039;t like to do again.

Take care of your teeth, it the only set you get.
Reply:You just may need a root canal. Just go see a dentist and if they tell u u need a root canal and u dont wanna get it just say maybe we should do this another time and then go home.

Teeth trouble in children?

hi, my daughter just ran into the gate riding her bike and hit her teeth. they were not chipped, but the two top middle teeth (incisives, i guess) are a little wobbly. she%26#039;s 5 - there are still not the permanent teeth, but i still am worried about her losing them. can you confirm that somewhat wobbly teeth can firm back up again?

worried,

Teeth trouble in children?
after awhile her roots will tighten them back in, but doc%26#039;s right.. feed her soft foods for awhile so they dont get more loose. but its nothing to really worry about.. since she will be loosing them soon anyways. but i understand about the self esteem reasons. she will be alright dont worry
Reply:don%26#039;t sweat cause they%26#039;re gonna be comin out really soon anyway. go see the dentist and he will jsut pop them out if they got jarred loose enough. they could also tighten up a little. those teeth are not normally lost until age 6 but just a litttle early isn%26#039;t going to hurt anything.
Reply:Why are you worried about her losing non-permanent teeth? They are going to come out anyways. The only concern is that they don%26#039;t come out and she chokes on them. Contact a dentist because they might just suggest pulling them now.
Reply:Do what the dentist said. He is right.
Reply:I%26#039;m sure she would not be the first one in her class to lose one of those teeth. Don%26#039;t worry about it just be thankful it was not her permanent teeth.

I agree with Tom and Huskymom.

Missing Teeth / Dental Implant / Braces?

I am having a lot of problems with my mouth over the last few months. I went to the dentist and he told me that I still have a baby tooth and I was born without two of my permanent teeth [two of the front bottom teeth].

He thinks I should pull the baby tooth and get braces to make room for two dental implants.

The whole thing freaks me out. I don%26#039;t want to be toothless, and I also don%26#039;t want something foreign in my mouth that is destined to %26quot;fail%26quot; sometime or another.

I am also curious as to if I could just get braces and pull everything together and just leave some space in the back - possibly room for my wisdom teeth when they come in.

I am an education major very close to graduating and I don%26#039;t want to have a physically negative appearance in the classroom. I have been constantly crying over the last few months after I heard the news. I really would like to hear comments from professionals who could possibly put me to ease.

Missing Teeth / Dental Implant / Braces?
Hi! I%26#039;ve been in dentistry for over 25 years and have implants. Many of them. And please promise me to stop crying over this. IT IS a solvable problem and you will not look bad or will they fail. In fact, implants will out live you. The baby teeth will fail. This you have no choice, they have to go. The braces will make room and more importantly, the implants will look more natural and better than the baby teeth. It all takes time, but the end result will be wonderful.

This is what I would do. I would make either a Maryland bridge that fills the gab and cements onto the neighboring teeth to take up the space of the baby teeth. The Ortho can bypass this and cement brackets and add the wire to the natural teeth and move them into position. Once this is done, remove the bridge and sink the implants. You can recement the bridge until the implants heal in place and the final crowns can be placed. NO ONE will know BUT YOU! And there is no space to be embarrassed about.

The second option is to wear a flipper that has two teeth on it and no one will know but you. I think this is not the best of choices as you can remove this and it can come out easily.

What I have done for patients, is make the Maryland bridge with a temp. material, costs less and you can have a good look. Once the teeth shift, sink implants and make a partial denture for the space. This hooks on to your natural teeth and is less likely to move when you talk or laugh. I have also re-cement the Maryland bridge for 3-4 months and the patient has no concerns until it it time for final impressions. Then still use this so no one knows and it looks great. It will cost a little more, but you wil have a full set of teeth, stop crying about it and get on with a great career. THIS is a TINY speed bump in your life. A good dentist will never let you walk around missing teeth and look terrible. I will never allow any of my patients to angst over this. If I have to make the temporary myself I do. Believe me, I have 11 implants and 5 are in the front, do you think my patients ever saw their dentist without perfect teeth? Never. So please calm down, this is easy to do. If your dentist can%26#039;t find someone that can. I do this all the time and my patients love me. The reason I care so much is I have been in the same situation. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie.
Reply:It will be okay. If you are uncomfortable witht eh implant tell the denist your idea and see what he says.
Reply:Okay. Are you aesthically ok at this point? That baby tooth can last for a very long time. I have a patient (I%26#039;m in the dental field) who has a nicely functioning baby tooth. He is 75 freaking years old!

Yes it is possible that the baby tooth will crap out. When it does, an implant may be in order. By that time you may have dental insurance and they might even cover a portion. SWEET! Dental implants have come a long way over the last 20 years. They are costly, but do last when done correctly.

If you have a malocclusion, see an orthodontist to see if braces can help this situation. They are in a position to scope out what needs to be where.

If you have dental insurance now, you should be able to get a panorex (full lower face xray) done under your coverage by your dentist. Take that xray to the orthodontist and get a consult. Most orthodontists will do a consult for a minimal fee.

Don%26#039;t worry about looking professional in the classroom because of your teeth. The kids will love it if you have to get braces. Now quit crying and finish you school work to the best of your ability.

Question about wisdom teeth?

alright this may be one of those questions that everyone else knows the answer to but i don%26#039;t...but anyways

i just got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled, and obviously i had to get stitches. when i was 9, i had to get 4 baby teeth pulled and didn%26#039;t get any stitches. the first reaction is probably %26#039;because the adult teeth are right there%26#039;...but the roots on the baby teeth were long and it the permanent teeth didn%26#039;t grow in until i was 12. why didn%26#039;t i need stitches with the baby teeth but i do with wisdom teeth?

Question about wisdom teeth?
the swelling should be gone in a few days or less. the baby teeth were designed to be pushed out and if they stitch it, it could problems for the permanent teeth.

The permanent teeth continue to develop slowly under the milk teeth. When the crown of the permanent tooth is fully formed, its root begins to grow. This causes an increase in pressure on the base of the milk tooth. The result is that the periodontal membrane and the cement and even part of the milk tooth root are broken down by enzymes and by special scavenging cells, called macrophages, which absorb the material in the manner of a feeding amoeba. When the cement and the membrane have gone there is no firm attachment of the tooth to the jaw – the tooth in fact becomes loose and eventually falls out, leaving a clear path for the permanent tooth which now rapidly grows up through the gum to take its place in the adult tooth row. When it has reached full size and is firmly embedded in its socket, the tooth ceases to grow because the opening of the pulp cavity closes just as in the milk teeth.

POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS

Bite on the gauze for about 30 minutes after your surgery. Do not bite too firmly, just enough to keep the gauze in place. After the blood clot forms it is important to protect it especially for the next 48 hours to avoid dry socket. Drainage for a few days is normal. To minimize swelling and bleeding, keep head elevated (use extra pillows when sleeping). You can brush your teeth the day of surgery. Avoid brushing the surgery site. Any stitches will come out on their own in a week

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water after meals and before bed. Begin a very gentle warm salt water rinses (1tsp. salt for every 8oz. of water). The first day or so, do not swish the water around in your mouth; Instead, move your head side to side to rinse. Do not spit; Let the water flow out of your mouth. If you are watching salt intake in your diet, you may substitute the salt water rinse with a peroxide and warm water rinse. Use a 50/50 peroxide and water solution

NO smoking for 2 days

NO drinking through a straw for 2 days

NO mouthwash for a week

NO excessive spitting

NO vigorous rinsing for at least 48 hours after your surgery

AVOID alcoholic beverages

AVOID greasy foods

AVOID high acidic foods and drinks such as tomatos, orange juice, etc....

DO NOT over exert yourself. It is ok to ride in a car or on a plane

For Pain:

Advil (Ibuprofen) or Aleve (Naproxin Sodium) or Extra-Strength Tylenol (Acetaminophen). Take with food. NO aspirin or aspirin products

For Swelling:

Place an ice bag on side of face where your surgery was, for 30 minutes on, then 30 minutes off. Repeat for 6 hours. After 48 hours, use warm compresses as needed for swelling

Eat soft foods. No chips, pretzels, peanuts, etc.... Stay away from crunchy, chewy or small hard foods, to avoid food particles becoming lodged in the socket. Suggested foods are clear broth, pasta, potatoes, yogurt, baby food, smoothies, pudding, cream of wheat, 7up, Ginger Ale, apple juice
Reply:Probably because your baby teeth were smaller.
Reply:Hi, I%26#039;m a dental hygienist and I hope I can answer your question for you. The need for stitches basically comes from how large the extraction site is. Obviously, a baby tooth is much smaller and the bone is still in it%26#039;s growing phase so new bone growth will fill in much quicker. Kids tend to heal up alot faster than adults do. And as you noted, the adult teeth are underneath where the baby teeth were removed and will begin their journey to the surface but it takes awhile. Unlike what most people think, the adult teeth are not completely formed and sitting under the baby teeth ready to come in. The adult teeth start out as a %26quot;tooth bud%26quot; in a little sack and first the crown portion of the tooth grows and then later as the tooth is starting it%26#039;s growth to the surface, the root begins to grow, and it is in part this root growth that causes the new tooth to rise up to the surface. It does take awhile and your body has a general time schedule when teeth erupt. Even though you had your baby teeth out at 9, those adult teeth won%26#039;t come in til they are scheduled to. Did your dentist place %26quot;spacers%26quot; where the baby teeth were removed? He should have, it will hold the gap open so the other teeth don%26#039;t shift around and try to fill the gap, which makes it a crowded mess when adult teeth try to come in.

When you had your wisdom teeth pulled, there was nothing underneath them but the hole that was left behind. Wisdom teeth are molars and are much larger, with more roots. That leaves a pretty big gap and you are much more likely to get food stuck inside that hole. Food will cause irritation and infection which would drastically slow healing. So the sutures basically are acting as a bandaid to keep the area as clean as possible so it can heal faster. It takes awhile for new bone to fill in completely where the tooth roots used to be. Soft gum tissue will fill in pretty quickly. Be sure to follow your post-op instructions completely to insure proper healing and you will be just fine!

That was a very good question, by the way. I%26#039;d never been asked that one before!

My daughter's milk teeth ?

My daughter is 5 yrs and 5 months old . I know she has all her milk teeth out but 2 days ago she had this slight fever that comes and go which I thought was caused by the weather ( we%26#039;re changing from hot to cold weather ) and then she complained but not cried about her tooth hurting . It didn%26#039;t seem like a real toothache coz she didn%26#039;t really mind it . Then last night she fell asleep without brushing her teeth so I carried her and was going to brush her teeth when I saw teeth coming out one on both sides on her lower jaws . Is that permanent teeth ? Her milk teeth are all out so I figured that must be it . It%26#039;s Friday night when I saw it so I still have to wait Monday to check with dental . She was really happy about it too ! Both teeth are half-way out and half is still under the gums which she saw .

My daughter%26#039;s milk teeth ?
Are they front teeth? If they are, then she%26#039;s getting her permanent teeth. Children have 20 deciduous (Or %26quot;Baby%26quot; teeth, or as you called them %26quot;milk teeth%26quot;) So if she%26#039;s got all 20, then the new teeth are permanent teeth coming through.

Tooth pulled out, would other teeth spread out?

I just had my permanent tooth number 5 pulled out today. It is the first tooth to be pulled out. And later I will have my wisdom teeth pulled out too (in more than a year from now probably). Will that cause my teeth to spread out?

Tooth pulled out, would other teeth spread out?
Not with the wisdom teeth because the teeth tend to move forward in the mouth, but with #5, the space will be closed becasue the teeth will move towards it from behind. The opposing tooth below will also super-erupt (or raise) into the space.
Reply:Now isnt that something you should have asked your Dentist today?
Reply:I believe teeth do spread out if teeth are missing, but I also think there are things that can be done about, so ask your dentist.
Reply:Yes the teeth will shift in no 5 area don%26#039;t worry bout this in wisdom tooth area. Need a bridge!! Doc W

Childrens teeth?

my 6yr old grandson has what looks like his permanent tooth on the bottom coming in right behind his baby tooth, problem is the baby tooth is not at all loose nor near readiness to come out yet.

of course we will see the dentist this monday, today is saturday. we just noticed it today.

will they have to pull out one or more of these bottom teeth to enable this other new tooth to move in the right spot?

Childrens teeth?
If the permanent tooth doesn%26#039;t come up directly below the baby tooth, the baby tooth root may not dissolve the way it should to become loose and fall out. If the baby tooth doesn%26#039;t get loose, it may have to be extracted. Depending on your dentist, he may wait a while to see if it loosens on it%26#039;s own or go ahead and get it out of the way. Most likely the permanent tooth already isn%26#039;t in the right spot or it wouldn%26#039;t be behind the baby tooth. Could be an indication of future braces! This isn%26#039;t terribly uncommon and not reason for huge alarm. Good for you getting him to a dentist as soon as you noticed a problem! He%26#039;ll do fine and may get to bring home a tooth to put under his pillow! Good luck
Reply:Not necessarily. Often in this case the baby tooth falls out normally and the pressure from the tongue eases the adult tooth into position. If it%26#039;s really far back and doesn%26#039;t seem to be resorbing the baby tooth (ie it%26#039;s not getting loose) sometimes we %26#039;help it on it%26#039;s way%26#039; and remove the baby tooth for the fairies! Often we watch and see for a while and then decide. Good luck x

Is it normal for your jaw to be tired or your teeth tofeel senstive when eatin after getting permanent braces?

Yes, it is normal but discuss it with your orthodontist.

Is it normal for your jaw to be tired or your teeth tofeel senstive when eatin after getting permanent braces?
Aside from your poor penmanship, yes, it is normal.

Not fun, but normal.
Reply:yes it is

dont wory about it, your mouth is supposed to feel like that if you just got permanent braces.
Reply:The first time you get your braces on your teeth will be very sore for about a week. You will want to eating very soft food. The less chewing you do the better. Every 6-8 weeks you will go back in for adjustments, your teeth will only be sore for about a day or two. Rubber bands help with the movement of your teeth. Please wear them as the doctor instructs you to do. If you do not wear the rubber bands it will take ALOT longer to achieve the results you want. I am a Registered Dental Assistant and I had braces for 2 years. The small amount of pain is well worth the award of a beautiful smile. And please brush and FLOSS them daily. You would hate to have been in braces for a few years just to go back to the dentist for fillings.

Pain after wisdom teeth extraction?

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and an impacted permanent tooth above a baby tooth removed 10 days ago. I do not have any pain where the wisdom teeth were removed, but I do have pain in my jaw joints. It%26#039;s like I have an aching or tiredness in the jaw joints and cheek bones. It isn%26#039;t a terrible pain but just enough to annoy you where you have to take an advil. I assumed it was just trauma from holding my jaw open for so long during the surgery, but I wasn%26#039;t sure if I should still be having pain. The roof of my mouth is still a little swollen and tender as well from the impacted permanent tooth they removed so, I wasn%26#039;t sure if that might have anything to do with it. Please help :0)

Pain after wisdom teeth extraction?
If you had all of that done, I would say you are healing well! You are right that your jaws are sore from opening so wide. It is normal for the jaws to be sore for several weeks more after wisdom teeth extractions. Just take the Advil, as you are. It will slowly go away. It takes about six months to really heal after wisdom teeth extractions.
Reply:I had 5 teeth removed 3 1/2 weeks ago. It was 4 wisdom teeth and an impacted baby tooth. I had the same problems you were having that the actual extraction points were virtually pain free besides being tender to the touch. My jaw is still a little bit tight when i attempt to open it wide. It gets better everyday and the less i focus on it the less i notice on it. Keep taking advil and you%26#039;ll be fine in a few more weeks. Hope this helps

My dughter is getting her second set of teeth and still has her baby teeth, does she need the baby set pulled?

My 6-year-old dughter is getting her permanent set of teeth behind her baby teeth. Her 2 bottom teeth BARELY wiggle and the rest won%26#039;t budge. After she complained of pain behind her teeth, I noticed her second set is coming in behind her baby set. She hasat least 2 coming in behind her bottom teeth and 2 or 3 coming in behind her top teeth. I am concened because her baby teeth are not ready to fall out and the permanent teeth are already breaking through. Does she need her baby teeth pulled by her pediadontist or will her baby teeth just fall out eventually from the pushing?

My dughter is getting her second set of teeth and still has her baby teeth, does she need the baby set pulled?
I would take her to the dentist, however my six year old was the same way. It freaked me out because her permanent teeth seemed to be coming in much farther back into her mouth then what looked normal to me, but after she FINALLY lost those two front teeth then the permanent ones moved forward. I don%26#039;t think is something you need to be overly concerned with, but maybe you could just call the dentist and see what they say.
Reply:yes she does this could cause her permanent teeth to come in crooked.
Reply:She needs to get an x-ray to determine, if, she%26#039;ll need her teeth pulled. Take her to a pediatric dentist, they can offer nitrous oxide or sedation for procedures or make referals to other pediatric oral surgeons.
Reply:She does need to get them pulled. My brother has 2 sets of teeth because he never got them pulled. It has caused his teeth to be bunched together and not straight.
Reply:Yes if she doesnt she will have crooked teeth and when they straighten she may neglect it and she%26#039;ll need partails
Reply:in general it is fine and they will fall out. Give it a couple of months then go to the dentist
Reply:My daughters dentist choose to leave the teeth there. They fell out within 6 months of her adult teeth growing behind her baby teeth. Best to have her dentist take a look and make the call on what to do. My daughter is also six.
Reply:Yes, your daughter will need some serious work done. And since her permanent teeth are coming in so early, she%26#039;ll probably need orthodonture. Either way, you really should be asking her dentist these questions.
Reply:this happend to my friend they need to be pulled because when she is 9 to 21 people will tease her
Reply:They will come out on their own - do NOT waste your money taking her to a dentist!

6 yr old fell - damaged teeth?

My 6 year old fell today, his front teeth went through his lips. I have a real concern as to if his permanent teeth which just came in will become discolored and if there is a way to prevent it.

My daughter when just learning to walk many years ago had a very similar fall and her milk teeth did become discolored. The dentist said not to worry as it was the milk teeth, but in the case of my son, these are the permanent teeth.

Thank you

6 yr old fell - damaged teeth?
when i was 8 i had my front teeth knocked out. I went a year without them and then got temp teeth after 2 root cannals until i was 18 after that i got metal rods put in my gums and then i had caps put in with look very nice and are strong and dependable. It is a long and painfull procces im sorry you son has to go through it i feel his pain.
Reply:Do his teeth feel loose? If so, I would get him to a dentist ASAP, because he may be able to do something to save the tooth%26#039;s root. It is when the tooth root dies, that causes the discoloring. If this happens, he will need a root canal and they will place ceramic caps on his teeth. A good cosmetic dentist will paint his teeth prior to placing the caps on so the discoloring doesn%26#039;t show through. It looks very natural and is painless. If his teeth don%26#039;t seem loose, he is probably ok, his lips probably cushioned the blow enough to save them from serious damage.
Reply:Your best bet is to go see your dentist or an oral surgeon ASAP. They will need to x-ray the teeth to see if there was any fractures/damage. This could be serious, or it could be minor. How bad is his lip? A surgeon could fix that too if needed. It%26#039;s hard to say what needs to be done without seeing the person, get him an appointment quick. Hope he feels better.

Why are my teeth so bad???

I brush my teeth every night and day, twice a day, and I floss once 2... But every time I go to the dentist I get a cavity... :%26#039;( My brother doesn%26#039;t always brush his teeth and never got a cavity.. not once... I just recently looked into the mirror and saw some black on my upper tooth but a lot of white... I had to floss 10 times, use a tooth pick, and use the water squirting thing to get the food out... it took about an hour and now I have a really bad cavity that I didn%26#039;t even notice... I brushed my teeth every day and flossed too but food always gets in and i always get a cavity... I only have a cavity on 2 perminent teeth with a filling but I had tons on my baby teeth... before all my gum was out on my 12 yr onld moller I had a cavity on that one.. Is there anything the dentist can put or do to my teeth that all my permanent teeth don%26#039;t get wreched??? My mom says it%26#039;s the shape of my teeth that causes all the cavities...

Why are my teeth so bad???
Maybe you drink too much softdrink %26amp; eat crap food. Also you should consider using mouthwash %26amp; believe it or not - a lot of bacteria sits on your tongue (it should be cleaned too). Too much antibiotics during the growth stage of the outer %26quot;dentine%26quot; layer of a tooth (even when it is below the gum surface) - can also make it easier to decay later on. Check with a dentist as to better hygiene.
Reply:Are you brushing the enamal off your teeth? Check with your dentist
Reply:This sounds like something you need to address with your dentist.

Some people are just cavitiy prone. It has to do with their enamel.

Do not be embarassed, your dentist isn%26#039;t judging you and if he his you need a new one!
Reply:It may be that your teeth are closer together or have naturally deeper grooves that harvests plaque and sugar. Lay off the sugar gum and the candy. Rinse your mouth after meals or snacks. Maybe you%26#039;re not brushing correctly? Make sure you tell your dentist and he can prescribe a different toothbrush or paste?
Reply:As unfortunate as it is, some people are just more predisposed to cavities and tooth decay. It%26#039;s aggrivating that some try so hard to keep their teeth perfect and just can%26#039;t seem to while others just don%26#039;t care and have no cavities or any problems, but it%26#039;s how it goes.

I would make sure that you%26#039;re getting enough calcium and vitamin D, because calcium deficieny will definately have adverse effects on teeth. Milk, in this case, certainly does do a body good.

Also, while it is discouraging, just know that you won%26#039;t have to keep going to the dentist for these reasons forever. Just in a bad streak of dental health, but it%26#039;ll end before you know it with your brushing habits. Hang in there!
Reply:watch your diet. If you drink alot of soda, or sugary things; it could leave you more prone to decay. Try cavity protections toothpaste and make sure you are rinsing your mouth completely after brushing; toothpaste can be abrasive.

Talk to your dentist about it. I%26#039;m sure he has great suggestions; he may even recommend a certain type of treatment.

%26lt;3.
Reply:It may be that you have deep grooves in the top of your teeth. No matter how much you brush you can%26#039;t get every bit out of those deep grooves. Try getting an electric toothbrush, and only use it on the top of your teeth. It can wear down your gums if you use it on the sides.... (it%26#039;s like sandblasting them) Also, get a HIGH content flouride toothpaste from your dentist. That will help. ALSO consider getting sealants on your back molars to help protect from cavities. Good luck, and don%26#039;t worry, you%26#039;ll be fine.
Reply:maybe it depends on how much and what you eat like dont eat sugar like candy gum chocolate and stuff like that and it also depends on what toothpaste you use........me........ id always use crest pro-health its only like $5.00 it does everything.
Reply:I%26#039;m not sure how old you are, or if it%26#039;s too late but I got a coating on my daughter%26#039;s teeth when she was around 10 to help prevent cavities. I can%26#039;t remember exactly what it%26#039;s called, though. Other than that, I%26#039;m not sure.
Reply:Your hygiene is not the problem. My husband has also had lots of dental work and cavities and was told he had very immature tooth enamel. I guess that means he%26#039;s more prone to cavities than other people.

Don%26#039;t be embarassed to go to your dentist. They%26#039;ve seen everything. Once while waiting for my husband at the dentist%26#039;s office there was a girl waiting for her appointment drinking a Coke and eating a honey bun. If you brush and floss they can tell. It%26#039;s worth it to go to make sure if you%26#039;re brushing properly and to see if you can have a protective coating put on your teeth. In the meantime, maybe try something like Act rinse for your teeth. It might help especially if you don%26#039;t live in a place that puts flouride in the water.
Reply:Listen up and listen good: TEETH ARE HEREDITARY.

I am sure you are doing everything right. Obviously one of your parents had bad teeth. If you are honestly brushing and flossing every single day, then take a deep breath and give yourself a break. IT ISNT YOUR FAULT. Also, new research has recently been published linking childhood medications and poor tooth enamel leading to cavities. If you were a child with a lot of strep and ear infections and took antibiotics, that may be another reason why you have bad teeth.

I have a twin who has had at least 40 fillings and 15 root canals. She brushes and flosses 3 times a day. I am like your brother and brush only once a day and I don%26#039;t have dental problems. Sometimes she has gone to the dentist twice in one week.

You might need special flouride treatments on your teeth and eventually you may beed your teeth to be capped or crowned. Also, stop drinking sodas and cut WAY down on sweets. They really do rot your teeth.

Good luck.
Reply:Actually, the genetic disposition for dental caries and/or gingivitis is inherited. Your brother got the good genes, you got the bad genes. =( But all is not lost. There is a wealth of information out there about treatment and prevention. Here is an excerpt from one site:

%26quot; Dental sealants can prevent cavities. Sealants are thin plastic-like coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars. This coating prevents the accumulation of plaque in the deep grooves on these vulnerable surfaces. Sealants are usually applied on the teeth of children, shortly after the molars erupt. Older people may also benefit from the use of tooth sealants.

Fluoride is often recommended to protect against dental caries. It has been demonstrated that people who ingest fluoride in their drinking water or by fluoride supplements have fewer dental caries. Fluoride ingested when the teeth are developing is incorporated into the structure of the enamel and protects it against the action of acids.

Topical fluoride is also recommended to protect the surface of the teeth. This may include a fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash. Many dentists include application of topical fluoride solutions (applied to a localized area of the teeth) as part of routine visits.%26quot;

And here is the web address: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/...

Please don%26#039;t obsess over this. It really sounds like you are doing a bit of overkill on the dental hygiene. You%26#039;re trying to clean your teeth, after all, not kill snakes.

By the way, if your dentist isn%26#039;t advising you on prevention, instead of just filling cavities when you come in, then you need to talk to your parents about getting another dentist. Someone intent upon preventing cavities, not just fixing them.

Teeth Help?!?

Okay so when I was younger I had a cavity in a tooth in the back. My tooth started falling out piece by piece. After it was all out (or so I thought) that tooth and the one behind it started coming in rotated. Which, is not my concern. Now, there is what seems to be like dried up blood or still a piece of the baby tooth or something back there. It%26#039;s not in the way of the permanent teeth, just there on the side. What could this be? Please someone help!

Teeth Help?!?
it could very well be just a piece of the baby took left over, i had the same issue when i was younger. you should try to work it out yourself, but if you can%26#039;t get it out or it hurts too much, i%26#039;d say to go have the dentist check it out... but i do think it%26#039;s more than likely just baby tooth left over.

Are my crooked teeth inherited?

I have an overjet, crowding, a jaw irregularity, and a crossbite in which the molars of my lower jaw are pushed somewhat inward. Only my two front teeth protrude forward, and my incisors are turned. The rest of my teeth don%26#039;t protrude forward. Also, my jaw is too far back and needs to be pushed forward. However, none of these problems resemble either of my parent%26#039;s teeth, or my grandparents%26#039;. My sisters always had perfect bites, but their teeth (mainly the incisors) were just a little crooked before braces. I don%26#039;t know of anyone else in my family with teeth like mine. Is my maloclussion inherited or is my mouth too small to hold all of my teeth? Also, my baby teeth took a long time to come in. I%26#039;m 15, and I just got my last baby tooth pulled about a month ago. The strange thing was, most of my permanent tooth had already erupted while the baby tooth was still there. That happened with some of my other teeth too. And, three of my second molars haven%26#039;t come in yet.

Are my crooked teeth inherited?
Most often, crooked teeth, overbites, and underbites are inherited traits, just like the color of your eyes or size of your hands. Other causes of misaligned bites are early loss of baby or adult teeth; improper fit of dental restorations (for example, fillings or crowns); a jaw that is too small to accommodate erupting teeth; gum disease; undue pressure on the teeth and gums; misalignment of the jaw after severe facial injury; tumors of the mouth or jaw; or habits like prolonged thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, pacifier use beyond the age of three, or prolonged use of a bottle.

It sounds as if most other members of your family have near-normal teeth and jaws, so it%26#039;s unlikely that you inherited your bite problems.

There is a genetic component, but for the most part a person%26#039;s teeth are pretty random. Odds are you got your%26#039;s by chance.

Also, while it looks like you have many problems with your teeth, it probably started out as only one problem.

Most likely, the original problem in this case is your underbite. With the lower jaw farther back than usual, your bottom teeth would push your upper teeth forwards - and baby teeth are easy to move. That would explain your overjet. The fact that your two front incisors were moved likely caused their turning. Your teeth sit in one place because of a balance of forces from your cheek/lips, tongue, neighbouring teeth, and opposing teeth. Once one is really out of balance, other stuff can start to go wrong really fast.

Also, when baby teeth are moved, the developing permanent teeth won%26#039;t necessarily follow, so they don%26#039;t erupt in a place that would push out the baby tooth, and come up right beside or behind it.

All I can say is that if the rest of your family has good teeth, you can know that you didn%26#039;t inherit yours.
Reply:I had very similar teeth problems like you. When I went to my orthodontist few years ago she said that the overcrowding of teeth were result of my small jaw (like my mother%26#039;s) and big teeth (like my father%26#039;s).So I believe that I%26#039;ve inherited it to some extent. My second pairs of molars came out when I was 16 so I guess time varies.

I suppose you%26#039;ve sought a consult with orthodontist. These are all problems that can be solved with braces and maybe pulling out a teeth (I got my mandibular third molars taken out before they even showed) to free more space.Orthodontics is very developed nowadays and if you don%26#039;t want regular braces there are new invisible kinds.

Don%26#039;t worry too much and good luck!

6 teeth in 3 months?

My son has lost 6 teeth in the last few months, 2 of them this week alone!!! Is this normal? I see where one that came out a week or so ago is already having an adult tooth come in, but right now, he only has 2 of his 8 front teeth completely there. Those 2 are permanent teeth. Another permanent tooth is about half way in. He eats a fairly balanced diet when he%26#039;s not being mr. picky. He gets loads of vitamins C though, he loves oranges and gets juice and a multivitamin everyday. I can%26#039;t think of what could be wrong, if anything. Can someone please help to ease my mind, or let me know what to do?

6 teeth in 3 months?
I lost all of my teeth in two years when I was 8-10. I wouldn%26#039;t worry, because I remember losing 3 in one week and all my permanent teeth came in fine.
Reply:My son lost 2 teeth in one day..and one tooth following it every day for 3 days...boy was the %26quot;tooth fairy unhappy%26quot; I had actually asked the dentist if this was normal..and for many kids it is...the adult teeth all move into place at the same time, so they loose a lot of teeth all a sudden...my son eats healthy and well balanced it doesn%26#039;t have to do with diet..it%26#039;s just the way he is...not all of my sons baby teeth are out yet..only about half, and he hasn%26#039;t lost a tooth in months..

How many teeth do you have?

I am talking about permanent teeth here, if you still have baby teeth don%26#039;t answer this. Apparently the average adult has 32 teeth. I only have 24 including 4 wisdom teeth, I had 4 permanent teeth removed before I got braces, so I would have had 28 teeth. Just wondering if anyone actually has 32 teeth, it seems like a lot.

How many teeth do you have?
Me personally? I have 31--I had 32 until my brother extracted my upper left wisdom tooth about 22 years ago.

Plenty of people have room for their wisdom teeth. Many do not. And it%26#039;s not unusual for permanent teeth to be congenitally missing--most commonly the wisdom teeth, upper lateral incisors, and lower second premolars (you almost certainly had your first premolars removed for orthodontic treatment).

Baby teeth extraction?

My son is 6 years old. His bottom central inscisor teeth are a little loose. I took him to the dentist today for a checkup and his permanent teeth are already growing in behind them. They are through the skin already. The dentist said give it two weeks and see if he can wiggle them and get them out. His permanent teeth that are growing in are so wide that the bottom lateral incisor teeth are in the way. He suggested pulling out them out to make room for the new teeth. He said if they were not taken out that his teeth would grow in crooked and crowd the other teeth which would increase his chance out cavities because they would be basically right on each other. I am a little worried about him pullung teeth before they are ready to come out and the pain that my son would experience afterwards. Has anyone done this for their child or had personal experience with this. Please tell me good and bad. Any advice is helpful.

Baby teeth extraction?
1. It is normal for the lower front adult teeth to come up behind the baby teeth and then push forward over time. There is no need to wiggle them, it will happen gradually but surely.

2. It is normal for there to be insufficient space for the adult incisors. You should NOT take out the baby laterals to make room. This only leaves LESS room for the adult laterals, and compounds the problem at a later date. It is far better to allow the adult teeth come in even if they are crooked, than to risk impaction of the adult teeth.

3. These are adult teeth coming into a child%26#039;s mouth. That is one of the reasons why there is not enough room at present. As your child grows, their jaw will widen, and there will be more space.

4. Also, the combined width of the lower baby canine and molars is about 2.5mm greater than the adult teeth that will replace them. Odd, isn%26#039;t it? This will mean a gain of 2.5 mm when those back baby teeth fall out between 10-13 years old. In the top jaw it is about 1.5mm gain. So this will also help the front teeth spread out.

5. These reasons are why it is uncommon to do orthodontic treatment to children with baby teeth except in special circumstances. Some of these apparent crowding issues may self-resolve as your child gets older. You really won%26#039;t know their degree of crowding (if any) until all baby teeth have fallen out.

6. The chances of cavities in front adult incisors is infinitesimal as long as you are doing routine hygiene and diet.

7. If you are still unsure, consult an orthodontist. DON%26#039;T have the baby laterals or baby canines removed.

8. Change dentists.
Reply:My mum had to have a dentist pull one of her teeth out. Some chemicals were injected so that she could not feel the pain as the tooth was being pulled. She felt nothing but later a minor after-math of pain was present. So it wasn%26#039;t too bad, but if you choose not to pull them your son can always have braces. I used to have them. Hated them, but people are different. Your son may like braces. Would you want him to have braces in the distant future?
Reply:Normally, even if the teeth erupt crooked, as long as the baby teeth don%26#039;t set in the way for months, the teeth will still straighten once the baby teeth are lost. Adult teeth will often move foward after baby teeth are lost. Normally, baby teeth only need to be removed if the adult teeth are already through the skin and causing movement of adult teeth with no near sight of loss of the baby teeth. The only thing crowding will cause if possibly a need for braces if they do not straighten themselves out. In general, don%26#039;t worry, let the adult teeth push through some more and the baby teeth will probably fall out, especially if they are already loose, just keep him wiggling them. If the adult teeth come in and the baby teeth set in for over 1 month, then take him to have the baby teeth out. These teeth are normally not the ones that make the difference on needing braces, it is normally the ones that come in later. These teeth will normally move quite a bit after the baby teeth are lost. Unless, absolutely necessary, I would avoid an extraction unless needed b/c even though it is simple, it is better to wait as long as possible before beginning work on children b/c they understand it better and are less scared.

Abnormal teeth?

I still haven%26#039;t lost my primary second premolar, but my adult tooth has started to erupt at a 45 degree angle without my other tooth having fallen out. So for you non-dentists....one of my molars is still a baby tooth, but the permanent tooth has already started to come in at a 45 degree angle, but my baby tooth still hasn%26#039;t come out. I%26#039;m 15 so I realise it may be abnormal to still have baby teeth.

1. Is it abnormal to have baby teeth at 15

2. Will I need to have the baby tooth taken out if it doesn%26#039;t fall out on its own

3. Is it possible that I may need braces to move the permanent tooth into a normal position?

Abnormal teeth?
at your age you should have lost your %26#039;baby teeth%26#039;. I would think it wise to go along to your dentist at the next available appointment to get it sorted. The tooth that you then say is at an angle may then straighten in to place if this is caught early enough. I hope this helps.
Reply:I am almost certain that if you go and have your molar removed, the adult molar should slide into it%26#039;s place. When you get your wisdom tooth back there, it will further help push the adult molar into place.

Baby Teeth in Dogs Still In?

My Boston Terrier, Oreo, just turned 1 on last August. We noticed that she still has 4 front baby teeth on the bottom, and 4 front baby teeth on the top. We think her permanent teeth had never came in.

My other previous two BTs, Tobi and Pepper, both had all permanent teeth (Pepper had beautiful teeth) that came in. Oreo%26#039;s the only one who still has baby teeth at her age......they all look white and clean looking....she looks cute in them though. LOL

Is Oreo%26#039;s teeth similiar to some humans who had a couple of baby teeth that never came out (no permanent teeth had created)? I am one of those people, and I have a fixed bridge made when I was 18, and I still have it today (in my 30s).

Is this common in dogs?

Baby Teeth in Dogs Still In?
any deciduous (baby) teeth that are still there after 7 months need to be removed! It can cause serious issues with her permanent teeth!! call the vet and get it scheduled! (it will require anesthetic!)
Reply:I DONT KNOW MY POM JUST TURNNED 1 THES MONTH AND HE STILL HAS LIKE 6 BABY TEETH
Reply:With dogs, some teeth do not come in but with pups , as in min-pins, boston terriers and chicuauas, etc they some times need a vet to pull the baby teeth so the permanent teeth will come through! Just check with the vet or look at hers with a flashlight to see if any white pockets above the gum line they may mean the adult teeth are there but the baby teeth are hindering them!
Reply:It is common for small dogs to sometimes have to have thier baby teeth pulled. So I wouldnt worry to much and just take him to the vet and they can fix him right up.

Why didn't this tooth grow back? and why are teeth so freak** annoying?

i went to a dentist 6 months ago and he had to pull out a baby tooth because it was holding back the permanent tooth which was starting to grow crooked because of the baby tooth pushing it back; now my dentist pulled out this teeth and he said it would grow in about 4 months , it has been 2 months later now, and stil no sign of the permanent tooth growing, why wont it come out? ps: i%26#039;m 14 years old, why are teeth such harsh things i always have to watch if when a tooth comes out hoping its not a permanent one, when i clash somewhere with my head a peace of teeth fell out making me more unattractive, sometimes they hurt a lot when i touched them or when i have hadaches, djee why are tooth so anoying and when wil this tooth that was suposed to have been there 2 months ago come? damn annoying teeth, i hate them! And why wont permanent teeth who fel out grow back, missing a tooth seems like missing something of yourself you will never get back. why is nature so hard on us?

Why didn%26#039;t this tooth grow back? and why are teeth so freak** annoying?
Are you from another planet or just lost in the shuffle of life?

Relax my friend, your teeth are not your enemy and neither is your dentist.

Stop being a victim and start enjoying life as a teenager.
Reply:I think you are stressing out a little bit too much to be only 14 years old. Be lucky that you are not in your late 20%26#039;s with 2 baby teeth. I have to get one pulled and replace it with a bridge since nothing is underneath the teeth. This will cost me upwards of 1500 to 2000 dollars per tooth
Reply:Sometimes it takes awhile for the teeth to erupt. It should have been one of your last baby teeth so relax it will be over soon.
Reply:Johnny, at age 14 you shouldn%26#039;t have too many more primary teeth to lose. Hopefully, your permanent teeth won%26#039;t spontaneously fall out. It would be great if the permanent teeth would grow back-it happens in some animals like sharks and alligators who have a seemingly endless supply of extras-but then that would put nice dentists like me out of the crown and bridge business. Your teeth are uniquely designed with an outer coating of enamel that is the hardest substance in the body. The tooth that was delayed in coming in should have come in when you were 12--it%26#039;s not surprising that it%26#039;s a little slow even with the baby tooth out of the way. Please be patient and take good care of your teeth. Dentures are a good replacement for nothing.

Do puppy's teeth grow in and then fall out then the permanent grow in like a child?

i have a puppy who is 9 weeks old and his teeth are still growing .he likes to pull or bite on anything he can and we where not sure if his teeth would get pullin out

Do puppy%26#039;s teeth grow in and then fall out then the permanent grow in like a child?
Yes, puppies have 28 deciduous (temporary) teeth and 42 permanent teeth. Puppies have no teeth at birth, and grow deciduous teeth beginning their second week of life. At three months of age, the deciduous teeth begin to be replaced by the permanent teeth.

Please don%26#039;t try pulling any out by yourself. They will fall out naturally, and if you%26#039;re lucky, you might even find one or two to keep in your puppy%26#039;s scrapbook :-)

You can give your dog ice cubes to chew on to help with the discomfort, or you can freeze an old wash cloth, but make your watch your pup carefully when he%26#039;s chewing on the wash cloth.

The replacement process begins with the incisors, and moves backwards through the canines, premolars and finally the molars. The turnover process is usually complete by the time the dog is eight months old, with none of the original 28 deciduous teeth remaining. Most deciduous teeth are swallowed with food and never seen by the pet owner. Occasionally, a deciduous tooth is merely pushed to the side and retained next to the permanent tooth. Retained deciduous teeth can be removed by a veterinarian.

The incisors turn over from deciduous to permanent from two to four months of age. The canines usually convert around six months of age. The premolars and molars follow in that order, with the last permanent molar erupting around eight months of age.

The exact schedule does vary from breed to breed.

Reply:You puppy is still young. I remember when I first got my dog his teeth used to fall out all the time. They are perminant now. It is normal.
Reply:yes they do lose teeth like us so dont worry
Reply:The loose their teeth just like a child. Just be careful in play. It will be a few months from now before the adult teeth start to erupt. So in the mean time, if you%26#039;re concerned you%26#039;ll break the teeth he has and uses now, just kinda keep an eye on the play.
Reply:He%26#039;ll start to teeth approx 14-16 weeks of age. At that time he%26#039;ll lose his current teeth and gain his adult teeth. They aren%26#039;t as sharp, and are much nicer !

Don%26#039;t be pullin out teeth.
Reply:yes,

of course.
Reply:Yes. Puppies lose their baby teeth just like children. Of course dogs grow faster than people and so do their teeth. When your puppy starts chewing on everything that means that they%26#039;re teething. But they are not like babies. They%26#039;re not going to cry. And unless you look in their mouths everyday you probably won%26#039;t notice.
Reply:yes they do.
Reply:Like humans, dogs have two sets of teeth in their lives. The 28 baby teeth erupt through the gums between the third and sixth weeks of age. Puppies do not have to grind much food, so they do not have molars. Puppy teeth begin to shed and be replaced by permanent adult teeth at about four months of age. Although there is some variation in breeds, most adult dogs have 42 teeth, with the molars coming last, at about six or seven months.

hope that helps!

I have white spots on my teeth after 4 yrs of braces- is this permanent?

when i try to use whitening products like Crest or Bright Light the white spots dont even out - they just get even whiter. My teeth are not really yellow to begin with but the spots on them are really bright white.

after having braces on for 4 years and all the money my parents spent i thought they would like nicer but they just look worse. can i get rid of these spots and what are they called?

I have white spots on my teeth after 4 yrs of braces- is this permanent?
Those white-spots are called decalcification spots. These spots can appear on teeth that have had braces or teeth that have not. You may want to ask your dentist for some fluoride toothpaste if he did not already have you on that while your braces were on. This will help re-mineralize the decalcifiaction areas of the tooth, making it look the same as the rest of the tooth. Some areas of decalcification are are fairly shallow and your dentist may be able to do a composite filling or a colored white filling that will match the rest of your tooth. I would talk to him and see what his recommendation would be, he can better judge your case.
Reply:omg the same exact thing happened to me. I got my braces off june 2006 and i still have the spots, but they are starting to go away because i just recently started using Crest White Strips, they are dissapearing very quickly. You can get them at any drugstore, Walmart, or Target. hope I helped!
Reply:Ooh, thats a toughie, and also one of the reasons why my orthodontist told me not to eat curries or foods with dyes that stained-

Def. Ask your dentist about whitening at your next visit- they can better help you with spots or discoloration in specific areas. good luck!
Reply:I had white spots after 2 years of braces and they eventually went away.

I would try baking soda and see if that helps.
Reply:I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it%26#039;s called staining, and it%26#039;s an oft-irreversable side effect of having braces. Sometimes they go away by themselves, sometimes you can chemical them off, but usually you can%26#039;t get rid of them.
Reply:these spots are not permanent. If they continue to get whiter you just have bad teeth.Don%26#039;t take this as a offensive answer.
Reply:I have the same thing after braces. Whitening strips didn%26#039;t work on this one tooth. And I%26#039;ve been using white strips for over 4 years. But I do notice that it does get lighter with time and not really noticeable. It seems to be a common thing with braces. I heard that it doesn%26#039;t really go away though. It can only lighten. See a cosmetic dentist. They prob have laser treatments for it.good luck!
Reply:ask ur dentist for ur money back. Just kiddin. Wait it out. It seems hard but use colgate whitestrips and be patient. they will go away.

I want to save my daughters baby teeth in some kind of permanent setting, any ideas?

I was thinking of some kind of resin or something similar but have no idea what kind of products and materials to look for,its for her memory box when she is a grown up.

I want to save my daughters baby teeth in some kind of permanent setting, any ideas?
Why not try a dental lab, they be able to set them acrylic for you or they have some wax that they can place them on in a strip but you%26#039;d still have to be careful they dont fall off.

Or you couldnt try plain old super glue on a little bit of wood and put in a window box.

Ive got my childrens baby teeth in a little trinket box.

You need to keep em air tight or they could start to smell.

Its nice that you wanna keep them though.
Reply:If your serious then I think some kind of a small box with a glass top and a lid. You don%26#039;t want it on display all of the time.

Instead choose a tasteful box/display box on the mantle piece. Handy to open and go ahhhhhh but not in anyoones face who doesnt want to see it.

I am of course assuming u have visitors. If not though you can put some wet cement on the wall and stick them into that.
Reply:that%26#039;s kind of creepy.

Maybe just set them aside in an envelope or something and give them to her when she grows up, if she wants them.
Reply:Call a local pediatric dentist. They should be able to make some suggestions, but talk with one of the dental assistants, not just the receptionists. Usually the assistants have more of a chance to visit with the pharmaceutical reps., and they may even have a catalog or brochure with something like that. You may need to call one or two offices to get the info you need. Good luck!
Reply:You need to soak them in a 10% bleach solution for 24 hours to kill bacteria and stop them smelling. Then rinse well under running water, and dry.

Just put them in a trinket box, they really freak other people out. Only mothers think they%26#039;re cute.

Set in anything they%26#039;ll just start to look like one of Marilyn Mansons dolls...
Reply:Have look in craft or hobby shops, or on the web for sites selling craft supplies.

You can then decide the best way to display these.
Reply:drill holes in them and wear them as a necklace
Reply:that strikes me as just plain odd.

they are teeth, human teeth, do you keep your old pets and stuff them for posterity too?
Reply:you can have them gold plated. i%26#039;m not sure where you live, but with a little research you will be able to find a jeweller that will be able to do it.

goodluck wrestling them back off the toothfairy though! : )
Reply:A nice resin shape polished and fixed to a neck-chain would be nice for one or two of them.

Stick them in a shrunken head and keep it in a jack-in-the-box.
Reply:The thought makes me shudder, save her shoes or a lock of her hair, but uuurgh!

Can you still have your teeth professionaly whitened with a permanent retainer on the back of your teeth?
It%26#039;s actually yes. Both professional whitening method (the in-office and trays) can be performed even when you have a permanent retainer bonded at the back of your teeth. The trays will fit over it. and the ingredients from the gel will not affect the permanent retainer. Report It

Dental partials- do they hook on to neighboring teeth or not?Can they be fixed(permanent)?

There are three bottom teeth on my left side that need pulled due to decay. Pulling them will leave nothing back there but a gap. Don%26#039;t partials have to have other teeth to hook onto?

Dental partials- do they hook on to neighboring teeth or not?Can they be fixed(permanent)?
A partial needs BOTH sides of the mouth to anchor it. So you would need to have a tooth (preferably) or a clasp on the other side as well. A partial cannot be cemented in permanently unless you mean a bridge and a bridge cannot span 3 missing teeth without at least a double anchor tooth on both sides, another words the bridge would span 7 teeth (2 on each side of the missing 3 teeth)

Implants would be your best option and would most likely cost less than a 7 unit bridge. A partial is the least expensive, but has to be removable.
Reply:No, if they don%26#039;t have anything, they are partials, if they hook on, they are a bridge..
Reply:A bridge hooks to the surrounding teeth.

Otherwise, they will make a removable partial plate to take the place of the teeth.
Reply:thet are made to hook onto your own teeth

You have to keep them clean,or they could dtart the adjacent tooh to get a cavity
Reply:Well u could get a flipper thats what i have and it works out pretty good.It is like a retainer with a tooth connected to it.
Reply:The partial will hook onto the tooth in front of the gap, and then again on the other side for stability. They won%26#039;t be able to be fixed since you don%26#039;t have any other back teeth to cement them too. The only permanent solution would be implants, but that can get quite expensive.
Reply:if you have no other teeth on the bottom you%26#039;ll want to add three new teeth to your existing plate and then use a holding substance like fixadent to hold them in. i have a top plate that has no hooks because the roof of your mouth creates a suction where as the bottom plate can%26#039;t create that same suction.
Reply:Partials need other teeth to hook onto, however, they don%26#039;t necessarily need teeth on either side (to see some examples, check out the link below).

Partials (short for %26quot;partial dentures%26quot;) can%26#039;t be fixed, as you will need to take them out for cleaning.

Bridges are permanent, but you would need a serviceable tooth on either side, so it sounds like a bridge would not be an option for you. The alternative would be implants.
Reply:Partials are any day cheaper but their floating in the area you need them would be a problem you may have to keep adjusting to. Extractions and same day implants would be your best option if you have enough bone in the area. But NobelGuide implants compensate any such problems. The high cost may of course be an issue. I checked with Dental Care India Tour offering same under $1500 per tooth inclusive of crown which is worth considering.
