Hello lovely Yahoo peeps! ^_^
Here’s my situation. I decided to run away to Europe for a year. Right before I left, I had been fitted with a permanent retainer on my lower front teeth. It’s been on for about a year and a half now.
I’m leaving for Germany in 6 days and will be staying another year. I don’t think I’ll be able to have this stupid thing taken off before I leave. I might try harder to get an appointment, IF I knew that my teeth would be harmed by having the retainer in for another year.
I was just reading that some people keep their retainers in for 20 years! Is this normal?? As you can tell, I’m absolutely clueless! xD
My main question here is:
Does wearing a permanent retainer for over 2 years harm your teeth?
Thanks!!
Does wearing a permanent retainer for over 2 years harm your teeth?
No, you%26#039;ll be fine. It%26#039;s no different than having the metal bands around your molars for 3-4 years while your braces were on anyway.
Reply:no it doesnt. just like having the brackets and bands on for 3 years, all it does it cover up that spot.
Reply:Why would you get it removed?? It%26#039;s there to keep your teeth PERMANENTLY in place. I%26#039;ve had mine for almost 4 years with no issues and plan to keep it for as long as it stays there...
