Permanent retainer cause tooth damage?

I just got my permanent retainer removed after 6 years of wearing it. Now I feel like there's a dent in my teeth where the wire was. When I run my fingernail over it, it feels like the enamel has been worn away.

Has this retainer caused damage to my teeth or is it possibly a plaque build up because I was not able to brush under the wire for so many years?

If anyone has any experiences in this I would be curious to hear what you think. Are my teeth permanently damaged?

I don't know just go to your regular dentist see what they have to say.
Reply:The damage it could possibly do is plaque can build up around it or all over so just make sure you concentrate some time on those areas and use a Flosser it is whats givin to kids with braces. Helps manuver floss around wire.

Hope i helped

- build up obviously after it is placed. plaque builds anytime of the day with drink or food. you will be fine if you brush and floss
Reply:i dont think it would be a plaque buildup, since the dentist is supposed to thoroughly clean the area before applying the wire.

if it is not visible and/or infected, i would not really worry about it.

yet again, ive never heard of that happening.

you might want to call your dentist.
