I chipped half of my permanent tooth! what will the dentist do to me???
welll,..... you could ask "what will the dentist do FOR me" since really we provide helpful services to people in need.

Or you can just make me and all my friends feel really bad about being so mean and evil. :( I"ll just sit here and cry.

OK, no seriously. was it really HALF of the tooth? if it's just a little chip, (couple millimeters) you can just have a little material bonded over the chip - it'll look and feel like a real tooth and you don't even always have to get numb for it. costs maybe 150 bucks tops.

However, if you're REALLY fractured HALF of the tooth, you will probably need a crown. For this , the dentist will get you numb (little pinch; less trauma that getting your ears pierced, really!) and then trim the tooth down here and there. Then s/he takes an impression, sends this to a dental lab and they make a crown (aka a "cap") to go over the tooth to stabilize the whole thing. This will also look and feel like a real tooth and is unlike to break for a long time. Cost wise, you'll probably pay $800-1200 for this dep on where you live.... if you have insurance, they'll cover half.

Hope I"ve helped... good luck and don't worry! if your dentist doesnt' make you feel like they'll take care of you and make it so it won't hurt much, find another one!
Reply:Well, if it chipped because you have a cavity then they will have to repair that. If it is just a chip they will sand it down and put a cap on it (they look quite natural). Beyond the shot for the novicane it should not hurt once they are done. Good Luck.
Reply:he will probably yell at you then punch you in the mouth! thats what my dentist did to me when i broke my tooth on a candy cane.
Reply:the dentist is able to repair it with composit that will look and feel real. you shouldn't be able to tell it was ever broken. i had one done 2 weeks ago.
