How would you painlessly pull a persons permanent tooth?
my wife had a tooth that was really bothering me, so i removed it for her
Reply:Knock them out, drug them, or intoxicate.





After that: Pliers.
Reply:let them drink ALOT OF rum/vodka or anything alcoholic, and then pull hard and fast
Reply:Well... you could use pliars, vise grips, or channel locks. You won't feel a thing unless they bite or kick you.
Reply:It really seems like it would hurt pulling out a permanent tooth, unless you can find some numbing medicine at a drug store or something!
Reply:if it's periodontally involved and allready loose, just grab it w/ some dish gloves and pull while twisting, just like a baby tooth.





If it ISN'T already loose, you probably can't do it.


Here's my reasoning. I'm a dentist with 6 years experience and having worked at a non-profit clinic, I pull more teeth before LUNCH than some guys do in a month. So I know what's involved.





Even with my knowledge, and experience and specialized instruments, I STILL have some that take me 40,60, even 90 minutes to extract. You're telling me you can do better?





Again, if it's a front tooth with just one root, you might have a shot using say a screwdriver and some kind of pliers. However, if it's a molar, (and even say a long-rooted canine/i-tooth) you're only going to succeed in snapping off the crown of the tooth, leaving the roots to hang out under the gums and get infected.





NOW you'll have a situation that's even harder to solve even for the dentist and instead of being $150 it's like $300 or more and you've dug yourself a hole.





Oh, and I haven't even got into the "painless" part...yeah, i suppose a referral to Dr. J. Daniels would help, but I've extracted teeth on drunk people (don't ask) and they still need local anesthetic to get it done...





So I'm not saying it can't be done, but watch out, Cowboy!
Reply:Oh dear!!! Please avoid DIY Dentistry! I agree with Dr Swanson - extracting teeth is never simple - it depends on where the roots are and if they're straight or twisted and so on, and its never painless to do it yourself. It takes years of practice for a dentist to be able to take out a permanent tooth, so it wont be easy. Teeth are embedded in sockets called the alveolar bone, so if you must do it yourself, loosen it with a screwdriver first by putting a screwdriver with a flat tip (sorry dont know the technical name, theres a reason I work in dentistry and not in DIY) at the sides of the tooth and push gently but firmly to loosen it. Be careful using pliers - if you grip the tooth at the wrong angle then it'll break the crown of the tooth off and you've got a much bigger problem on your hands.


When it does come out, bite on a clean hankerchief to slow the bleeding and avoid hot drinks or food. Do not smoke afterwards, or it'll get infected.
