Should I elect to get my wisdom teeth pulled? Will my teeth shift or my gums shrink?

When i was a teen I had bad crowding and had 4 teeth pulled in order to have braces. During college, my bottom left wisdom tooth (they've all grown out) got a bad cavity, and since i was a broke student, I decided to just get it pulled out rather than spend a fortune on a root canal. Now i'm working full time and have good dental insurance. When i went in for a checkup, my dentist pointed out that my top left wisdom tooth had grown out further than the rest b/c the bottom one had been extracted and there is space. My top right wisdom tooth on the other hand sticks out a bit, causing me to accidentally bite my cheek from time to time. I was referred to an Orthodontist and advised to have both these upper wisdom teeth pulled to prevent future problems. My bottom right wisdom tooth is fine and doesn't need to be pulled.

While I trust the dentist's advice, I'm apprehensive of having 2 more permanent teeth pulled, making a total of 7! I don't experience any pain of discomfort.

Should I elect to get my wisdom teeth pulled? Will my teeth shift or my gums shrink?
Press your dentist for an alternative. If you are not happy with his advice go to a different dentist. Your gum will shrink and the shape of your face will be different. Avoid extraction wherever possible. But if a tooth gives persistent problems root canal treatments are not always a success and can give persistent problems.

Perhaps try several more dentists for advice.

It is you have to live with your teeth not the dentist.

I have lost 3 of the 4 teeth before the wisdom teeth. If I had my wisdom teeth pulled I would be without any back teeth. Wisdom teeth can be an insurance against losing other teeth
Reply:Yes yes yes get them pulled my dads a dentists and he says its neccsery

Reply:Wisdom teeth are a bother. They are not really your permanant teeth. They tend to get cavities very easily and normally have to be pulled later down the road anyways. If you had teeth removed for orthodontic reasons, then losing the wisdom teeth shall present no problem. When an orthodontist removes teeth, they do it because your teeth need the room. There shouldn't be a big issue. I have had to lose two teeth for ortho reasons and had my wisdom teeth cut out...no problems with gums here.
Reply:Dentists will usually tell you that you need to get your wisdom teeth pulled because that is one of their biggest money makers. It's only necessary if you're having recurring problems with them.
Reply:shoot yea. i got all of mine done at the same time. my mouth feels so much better. it was getting to where my wisdom teeth pushing the rest of them forward making them hurt. i would highly recommend it.
Reply:If you are not having any problems with them I wouldn't get them removed, I still have one that did not even break the skin yet and had my other 3 removed because they where painful and coming out sideways, but if yours are out and you have no problem , like they say if it's not broke do not fix it.
Reply:Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and the 4 teeth you had pulled are not a big deal. This is very common as your mouth was too small for them. However, the wisdom teeth will have to go it not now later, and the longer youwait the issues there are. These teeth tend to have a short life span because they trap bacteia and decay. They also can kick out your front teeth over time and you will start to notice a space. Then you will really be unhappy. Get out the two teeth now. Don't wait. YOU are not losing permanent teeth, you are short cutting serious problems in the future. ANd if these teeth decay between the tooth in front, now you have even beigger problems. Please trust your dentist and me and have them out now. I've heard your argument from so many people and later they regretted it. So please help the rest of your teeth by doing this now. And don't go by anyone else's experience, dentistsry now is a huge diffference than 20 years ago and hygiene and fluoride have made it a whole new world. Good luck!! M
