Extraction of Front Teeth - Any Alternatives?

Two part Dilema:


Firstly, after having had braces for about 4 months is it wise to get a bottom permanent tooth extracted souly at the advice of 1 orthodontist, or should there be some insistance on trying other methods to squeeze it in line with the other teeth. Like, is it worth it to have straight teeth yet a weird looking smile with only three front bottom teeth.





2)If the extractions are to be done is it smart to get them done with an out-of-town dentist (because they're the only one with openings before January) who is creepy and who was very ungentil during a past visit for a cleaning.





Please answer both parts :)

yes,,, if your orthodon'tist says it needs to be extracted to straighten the teeth do it,,,he knows what hes talking about ,,after treatment you will never notice that one is missing AND on part 2 of the question??? No dont go to that Dentist who was a creep to you before,,,,Either keep calling other Dentist in the area and tell them to put you on a short call list{ if they get someone who cancels at last minute}OR wait until January when you can get in to see another Dr. who may not be so rude to you... a lot of Dentist will refer you out to other Dentist that they like,,, just because they like then doesn't mean you will ,,,besides January is only a few weeks away,,, the only thing that will happen if you don't see the Creepy Dr. now is that it will only set you back a few weeks in treatment,,Good Luck

Reply:i wonder if its worth asking for a 2nd opinion - and yes it would be a good idea to find a gentle dentist - they are not nice places to go as it is - so you need to trust your dentist - i wish you lots of luck -

Your teeth are important. Get another opinion. Use ONE dentist and make it one that you trust.

I dont think you should do either of them options, you obviously dont want one of your teeth extracted, and dont want to go to the creepy dentist

Reply:If they are troubling you, you can think of options but if you think they are ok then why to worry as front teeth are not for chewing. When you get dentist you have confidence, you can do the needful.

you can have the tooth "crowned "to fit in with the others..


It entails taking the tooth down to this ^ shape and fitting a new top the ortho makes a mould and a tooth cast is sculpted in this,,,,, on removal of the old top tooth he has


a temporary "cap tooth" for you to wear until the new one is ready to fit (2 weeks)


If you want a good job done that will last decades you have to be a patient ,patient ! I,ve still got my mould "ornament !
